Working as an San Jose Food Photographer means I get to witness the stories behind the food—stories of tradition, courage, and transformation. One of the most inspiring stories I’ve had the honor of capturing is that of Yoshihiro Sakaguchi, owner of Taishoken USA.

From our first project together in San Mateo, I saw Yoshihiro’s dedication to preserving the heritage of Japanese ramen while fearlessly expanding his culinary footprint across the San Francisco Bay Area. As a San Francisco culinary photographer and commercial food photographer, I’ve collaborated with him to create imagery for his restaurants in San Francisco, San Mateo, and now, his newest location: Taishoken Milpitas, opening April 11.

This latest production was especially meaningful. In the middle of our photo session, I caught a glimpse of Yoshihiro visibly moved—excited, proud, and fully present in the moment. And that moved me too. As an San Francisco Comercial Photographer, I’m used to being behind the lens, focused on lighting, styling, and composition—but this time, I had to pause and just feel the moment. To see him living his dream with such passion reminded me why I do what I do.

What makes this story even more special is that over time, we’ve continued to choose each other. Yoshihiro has placed his trust in my work, and I’ve had the great honor of supporting his brand’s growth through imagery that reflects his vision. That mutual trust and ongoing collaboration are what make this journey so rewarding.

Opening a new location is no small feat. It requires vision, courage, and a deep connection to one’s craft. Yoshihiro embodies all of that. He’s not only carrying the culinary tradition of Japan into new communities—he’s also proving what’s possible when you believe in your dream and commit fully to it.

Whether I’m working as a Cookbook Photographer in San Francisco, capturing Commercial editorial content in Carmel, or teaching Natural Light Food Photography through my Savor The Light Workshop series, it’s people like Yoshihiro who inspire my best work.

If you’re a chef, restaurateur, or brand ready to share your culinary journey, I’d love to help you bring it to life. As an SF Bay Cookbook Photographer, I’m here to tell stories that matter—stories of boldness, growth, and the beauty of food.

Congratulations to the Taishoken team on the grand opening of your Milpitas location!
It’s been an honor to walk this path with you.
